President Buhari and ex-president Goodluck Jonathan
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is not in any way better than that of past administrations of under its watch.
The PDP made this declaration in a statement it tweeted on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday, August 23 and lists reasons for its assertion.
“There are no indices anywhere by which the Muhammadu Buhari administration can be assessed as better than ours,” the party stated categorically.
The opposition party also carpeted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the state of the economy and said the “APC should focus on resolving the economic woes they have brought on Nigerians”.
PDP further slammed APC chairman, John Odigie Oyegun for claiming that the party falsified data that it was presenting to Nigerians in its comparisons of the economy in the past and now.
“Chief Oyegun’s response to our media statement of 19/08/2016 is a summary of the APC led FG– long on prose & badly short of substance. His retort that we hired spin doctors to bandy figures is badly unfortunate.
“Our collective misfortune is made worse when we consider that the chairman of the ruling party thinks that figures that show the parlous state of the economy under the APC-led FG are spin or that the poor state of the economy is an act of God.
“Chief Oyegun needs to concern himself more with the salient issues,” the opposition said to Oyegun.
On the state of the economy, PDP accused APC of creating a hostile environment for businesses such that companies like Sun International had to pack up and leave. The party then lists reasons why the Jonathan administration is better than Buhari’s.
It said: “For the avoidance of doubt the salient issues include –
1. Foreign Investors like the Sun International leaving Nigeria over a hostile working environment where passports of staff can be seized by EFCC for several months without a court order.
2. Food prices have risen to the point where minimum wage (N18k) cannot buy a bag of rice (N20k). It was N9,000 at the inception of this administration.
3. The incoherent FX policies of the Muhammadu Buhari administration which have led to exchange rates of $1 – N315/N396, £1– N416.43/N510, €1 – N359.26/N442.
4. The unrestrained mass murder of Nigerians in the North Central that has left more than 1000 people dead in 2016 alone
6. The shambolic 18.4% performance of CAPEX for #Budget2016 and
7. 16.5% inflation.”
The PDP said all these pointers prove the APC is not doing any better than it did in its 16 years in power.
“Chief Oyegun will be better served worrying about such things than the spread of a false narrative.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the PDP to tender an unreserved apology to Nigerians for their disastrous 16-year rule that has left the people pauperised and traumatised.
The media aide to the chairman of the APC, Segun Dipe, made the call in a statement in Abuja on Monday, August 22. Dipe said the country’s resources were stolen and frittered away during past PDP administrations.V
