Saraki donates N10 million to flood victims in Kwara state

The senate president, Bukola Saraki, donated the sum of N10 million to 630 flood victims on Thursday at his senatorial district.
Saraki, who represents Kwara central senatorial district of the state in the senate, presented the flood victims with relief materials and cash gifts at a ceremony at his campaign office in Ilorin, the state capital.
The Director General of ABS Constituency Office, Musa Abdullahi, who distributed the cash gift on behalf of Saraki, said the senate president was responding to needs of the people irrespective of their political affiliations.
“Our political leader and Senate President deemed it fit to assist the recent flood victims across Kwara central without minding which political party they belong.
“Saraki is passionate about the wellbeing and welfare of his people as their leader, hence, his decision to assist the flood victims,” Abdullahi said.
Abdullahi asked the beneficiaries from this donation to reciprocate the Senate President’s kind gesture by voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2019 presidential elections.
He added that Saraki is always prepared to assist the people of the state through the provision of basic infrastructure and human capital development and urged the beneficiaries to ensure the victory of the senate presidents party to enable him to continue this gesture.

Ganduje Bribery Videos: Contractor Willing To Testify Before Kano Assembly Panel

According to a TheCable report, the contractor behind the videos showing Abdullahi Ganduje, the Kano governor, purportedly receiving bribes, says he is ready to testify before the state assembly panel investigating the matter.
In a letter sent to the chairman of the investigative panel, through Saeed Muhd Twada, his lawyer, the contractor referred to as a ‘whistleblower’ said his allegation against Ganduje is strictly personal and that he would appreciate if the governor also appears in person at the panel.
Daily Nigerian, an online newspaper, had published multiple videos showing Ganduje allegedly receiving kickbacks from contractors but the governor denied the allegations.
The Kano assembly subsequently set up a seven-man committee to investigate the allegation.
The unidentified contractor, however, said his appearance before the panel will be based on the fulfillment of some conditions which were listed in the letter.
One of the conditions is that all the video clips will be submitted to two experts for forensic analysis and report — one, a serving officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the other an expatriate, while their bills will be paid for by the state.
“That a Certified True Copy of the Report(s) prepared by the experts shall be made available to our client prior to his appearance,” the letter read.
“That our client has undertaken to surrender to the experts, the device used in capturing all the events in the video clips submitted and others yet to be submitted for discreet analysis and scrutiny.
“That all the proposed questions to be asked by the panel in the anticipated session shall not be more than TEN (10) and shall be forwarded to our client in advance.
“That the sitting be restricted to limited persons and that our client should be allowed to wear mask, bear pseudo name and receive protection from authorities for himself, family and business undertakings.”
The contractor also demanded that the panel must also have in attendance the governor, Jaafar Jaafar, publisher of Daily Nigerian newspaper, and one Aminu Daurawa.
At a hearing of the panel in October, Jaafar had insisted that the videos were authentic.
A high court in Kano on Monday ordered the state house of assembly to stop investigating the allegations against Ganduje following a legal action undertaken by a pro-democracy group called Lawyers For Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria. But the panel has insisted that it will continue with the probe.

Do You Agree? ‘60% Of Nigerian Undergraduate Projects Are Copied’

A former executive secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Peter Okebukola, says over 60 percent of project reports of Nigerian undergraduates are plagiarised.
Speaking yesterday at the first Kwara State University Education Lecture, Okebukola said the rate of plagiarism as a form of academic corruption at the Masters level was between 15 and 20 percent and eight percent at the Ph.D. level.
“It’s academic corruption when lecturers don’t show up in classes as required or teach only 10 subjects out of about 20 in a semester, and when students negotiate with lecturers for marks”, he said.
Okebukola said that solving problems in the education sector might be challenging, but not impossible.
“Government must place high premium on education by providing adequate financial resources for the sector. Our institutions of learning must also look for innovative ways to raise funds. The teaching profession must be considered as one of the most important jobs and accorded due regard.
The Minister of Education must appeal to state governors to give special emphasis to addressing the problem of low quality of basic education. Also, there is the need for an enabling environment to be created for teachers and students through improved conditions of service, provision of basic infrastructures for the delivery of quality education.
He said Nigerian universities were grossly under-resourced in human and physical resources, calling for adequate funding of public educational institutions in the country.
Okebukola also appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to embrace dialogue in resolving the ongoing strike.

APC begins reconciliation ahead of 2019 election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos East Senatorial District on Thursday commenced reconciliatory moves to bring all members together after party primaries, ahead of the 2019 General Elections.
Party leaders from the district, at a Reconciliatory Stakeholders’ Meeting they organised in Lagos on Thursday, said it was time to bring all, including aggrieved party faithful, together again.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that reports that the meeting had in attendance members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) like Sen. Anthony Adefuye, Chief Lanre Rasak, Chief Olumuyiwa Sosanya and Chief Akanni Seriki, among others from the district.
Also in attendance were members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, council chairmen, women and youth leaders from the district.
Sosanya, a GAC member from Kosofe/Somolu zone, emphasised in his remarks the need for members to be united.
“We have adopted a resolution that members of APC in the Lagos East should be united. We belong to the same family.
“Irrespective of the groups we belong to, we should be united under the umbrella of the same party. There should be no discrimination, “ th leader said.
According to him, the meeting is for peace and to spread the hands of fellowship to all members of the party who may be aggrieved after the primaries.
Also speaking, Rasak, a GAC leader from Epe zone, said that lack of meeting point among leaders in the district had affected unity and togetherness in the party.
Rasak, however, said that the party leaders had met and stressed the need for unity in the 16 council areas that made up of the district.
He said that the district had been divided into three zones — Ikorodu, Epe and Kosofe/Somolu.
Rasak, who was speaking on behalf of the GAC members, said that Adefuye had been appointed as the new Senatorial Leader and Seriki appointed as the Deputy Senatorial Leader.
He said that three vice chairmen had been appointed to coordinate each zone and provide leadership.
According to him, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former deputy governor is the Vice Chairman for Ikorodu zone, Sosanya for Somolu/Kosofe zone while he was appointed for Epe zone.
He said they were to preside over the meetings in the zones, urging the leaders to ensure that no one broke the chain of command.
“We should go back to our respective zones and establish necessary structure for the harmonisation, resolution of all disputes”.
Seriki, another GAC member, warned against betrayal and disloyalty, saying that party faithful should be fairly rewarded and all infighting should end.
Tunde Braimoh, a member representing Kosofe Constituency II in Lagos Assembly, said the meeting was to rejig and reengineer the party ahead of the elections.
Braimoh said that only one person could get a seat where many people indicated interest.
He said there was a need to bring everybody together after the contest to move forward for the task ahead.

Nigerian Journalist Sacked For Supporting Buhari (Photo)

Umar Ridwan, a presenter of Youth and ‘Gari ya waye’ programs at Kaduna based broadcast medium, DITV-Alheri Radio, owned by an ex ally of Pres Buhari, Hakim Baba-Ahmed, has been sacked for posting pro-Buhari comments on Facebook.
Mr Baba-Ahmed was co-agent to President Buhari during the 2015 elections before defecting from APC to PDP.
He is now the Chief of Staff to the Senate President Bukola Saraki, another arch-rival of Mr Buhari.
It was gathered that Ridwan was sacked because of a post he made on his Facebook page concerning the activities of President Buhari.
In the letter dated October 15, the organisation terminated Mr Ridwan’s appointment without stating clearly the offence(s) he had committed.
However, Mr Ridwan pointed out that his sacking might not be unconnected with his Facebook post concerning the activities of President Buhari, which allegedly angered the proprietor. .
According to him, the station had earlier given him 2weeks suspension for posting political matters on his personal social media pages. .
“After some consultations with industrial law experts, I discovered that the station has no right whatsoever to interfere with my personal activities, as long as it does not affect my duty as a presenter. .
So, on my resumption from the suspension, I shared a Tweet on the defunct Nigerian Airways pensioners’ fund release, posted by the Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed, the management apparently got angry and decided to fire me.”:

"I Never Said APC Is Responsible For Nigerians Suffering" - Okorocha Cries Out

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has denied the report circulating online that his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is responsible for what Nigerians are going through.
In a statement made available to Igbere TV by the Chief Press Secretary,  Sam Onwuemeodo,  Okorocha described the report as a fabricated story and revealed that he never made such statement.
The Statement reads ,
"RE: APC RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT NIGERIANS ARE GOING THROUGH - OKOROCHA
"Our attention has just been drawn to a fabricated Story by an online medium, the Daily Post with the referenced Caption.
"Governor Okorocha never made such Statement and could not have said such.
"Unfortunately those behind the fake story didn’t mention when and where Governor Okorocha made such Statements.
"And we know the reason for their coming up with such gimmicks today. It is the expected publication of the governorship and House of Assembly Candidates of the Parties by INEC.
"They have come up with the fabricated story to see if that could help them out. But the truth is that it won’t help them.
"The Public should please disregard the false story."

NEMA Receives Another 120 Nigerian Returnees From Libya

155 Nigerians Return From LibyaFile Photo of Nigerian returnees from Libya.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received a fresh batch of 120 stranded Nigerians from Libya.
The returnees who arrived at the MMIA Cargo Wing at about 9:15 pm on Thursday, via AL Buraq Air, were brought back with the help of the International Organisation for Migration.
They were received by the Acting Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Segun Afolayan and other Federal Government agencies.
The returnees comprised 29 female adults, five female children, four female infants, 75 male adults, two male children and five male infants.

According to NEMA, they were brought mainly from three cities of Sabha, Bram Alshati and Oubari.
While welcoming them back, Afolayan asked the returnees to make good use of the second chance afforded by the IOM and God Almighty after surviving the dangers of illegal migration.
one of the returnees, Miss Chisom Johnson, who said she is a professional stylist, narrated her ordeal to Channels Television.
She said, “I was deceived that I would get a better job at Germany as a stylist, there were 20 of us in the team and we were promised that we would fly to Germany but after two weeks, we found ourselves in Niger Republic.
“After three weeks we were in Libya, Madam told all of us that, we can’t cross over but we have to become prostitutes in order to refund her money which was 1.4 million naira.
“I resorted to fervent prayers and pleaded with madam that it is a taboo in our family to prostitute.
“I pleaded with her to give another option. I was asked to work at a restaurant and was able to refund her money.
“Immediately I finished paying her money, I started working on my own to get some money but my madam organised my kidnapped and I was bailed by her with about N650,000 and she doubled the amount and said that I must pay her N1.3 million.
“I paid her by doing all sorts of work.
“I left Nigeria in 2014. I returned with nothing to show for the wasted four years.
“I want to beg those people thinking about travelling illegally to desist. There is nothing better outside Nigeria. Is it the freedom to move around, is it the liberty to engage in work without fear of hoodlums breaking into your house and taking away your sweat because there is no banking system for us? We have to keep our cash with us and the boys invade us to take it away.
“Nigerians should stay and look for better opportunities here please”.
